Letter To The Editor: Niger State Mosque Clash

Dear Editor,

I refer to the recent clash between two Muslim groups in Munya local government area of Niger State reported on Monday 22nd January, 2018.

The menace of inter-religious strife ongoing in Nigeria is certainly enough to contend with. The polity is widely been blown by various interest groups trying to divide us along the borders of religion and ethnicity. Intra-religious clashes will therefore be biting more than we can chew.

Islam represents peace in its entirety, therefore, should not be a reason for unrest. Moreover, prayers are a personal relationship with ones creator where neither of the warring parties is certain of the acceptance of hers. So, why the clash?

Our Muslim brothers should, therefore, learn the true teachings of Islam that accommodates and tolerates. The teaching as exemplified by Muhammad (Peace and blessings of Allah be on him) that recognises the right of every individual or group to create whatever form of relationship with her creator.

I commiserate with the family of the dead victim and pray for speedy recovery of the injured.
