“Every Deen has an innate character. The character of Islam is modesty.” – Hadith Abu Dawood.
Modesty should be an innate character of every Muslims of the world. That would have helped the situation of the Ummah in a very long way. To be modest as a Muslim is essential as the Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) preached against extravagance in any respect; wealth, strength, power, money etc. He enjoined us to be modest in faith as it will moderate one’s behaviour, guide against implying an action of negative effect on fellow Muslims. It will reserve you from having a limited and not overly high opinion of oneself and one’s abilities. You won’t feel you have the power to cause and stop something from happening. Your meekness and silence, but not too much silent, could also solve many things. You have to be cautious of your utterances.
Modesty encourages all factor that make man; equity, justice and good conscience. Life will be simple if even a secular and not religious man should have this modest characters, he will be the very best friend, neighbour or business partner. But at greater height, it can be achieved when one is a true believer. According to Ali Ibne Ibrahim, these modest characters can only be attained with sincere adherence to the Kalimatu Shahadah – There is no god except Allah.
The modest characters stated above show that reality of faith is to believe that Allah is with you wherever you are. That He observes you and is aware of you all time and in all your actions.
“On the Day when Allah will resurrect them all together (judgement day) and inform them what they did. Allah has kept account of it, while they have forgotten it. And Allah is Witness over all things.”
May Allah bless us and guide us to His guidance – aamin.
